Bio:
Sonya Sklaroff lives and works in New York City. Her oil-on-panel works are studies in composition, light, and color - often featuring water towers, fire escapes, and the generally ubiquitous mundanity of New York - boldly revealing the underlying richness and complexity of the urban landscape.
Sklaroff's work is held in both public and private collections internationally, and is shown in galleries in New York, San Francisco and Paris. Her paintings have been featured in publications such as: The New York Times, Edition Internationale du Figaro, and The Washington Post. She is a BFA graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design and holds an MFA from Parsons School of Design.
In 1999, Sklaroff had the opportunity to paint on the 91st floor of Tower One of the World Trade Center. This grant, entitled "The World Views Project", was given generously by the Port Authority of NY and NJ and sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. The paintings featured in this exhibition were completed during this residency.
