Richard Haas
4. Richard Haas,
Shadow of Daniel Burnham's Chicago Civic Center over the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center, 1994.
This is the latest print that is part of an ongoing project based on a series of site-specific painted shadows proposed by the artist.
The Chicago Plan of 1909's centerpiece, the Civic Center building, which was never constructed, is the artist's starting point for this image. Unlike his other shadow projects, in which he brings to light the important buildings fallen to the passage of time, Shadow of Daniel Burnham's Chicago Civic Center over the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center reminds the viewer that there are some buildings that deserved to be build and were not. The print was developed in 1994 with the technical assistance of Orlando Condeso and were printed at Spring Press.
The two-color, two-plate line etching with aquatint is printed on Arches Cover White.
