Fine Asante silk men’s size kente cloth, circa 1920-30, in excellent condition. Asante kente were named after the warp stripe combination with several hundred designs recorded by the colonial researcher Robert Rattray in the 1920s, but this example, although in familiar Asante colours, is a rare stripe combination whose name has not been recorded. It is a very neat and well woven example with narrow white weft stripes breaking up pattern sections, notably in the border areas and adding visual clarity.
