Carlos Jesus Martinez Dominguez - Dominican Republic
“My name is Carlos Jesus Martinez Domingo or FEEGZ. I am a graffiti-influenced visual artist who draws inspiration from the culture and related Histories of Hip Hop, New York City, and the Caribbean. My agency as an artist is born from the intersection of my identity as a Dominican-Puerto Rican American man and the inherent tensions that exist within our systemically ingrained system of beliefs. I have exhibited at El Museo del Barrio, Studio Museum in Harlem and Centro Leon Jimenez Museum among other institutions and galleries. Shows I am particularly proud to have exhibited in include Caribbean Crossroads of the World and El Museoʼs 2011 Biennial the S files. My work conveys my anxiety and thrill regarding history, how that history manifests in the present, and presents implications for the future. While I have much respect and pride in my cultures, I would rather shine a bright light on things some believe we should reexamine as opposed to playing the cheerleader for them.”
