Born 1953, Morris Co. New Jersey
1977 B.F.A in studio sculpture - University of New Mexico
1979-1985 studyied art in the San Fransico Bay area
1985- to Present living in Howardsville, Virginia
Since 2001 painting in NYC (as much as possible)

Plein Air Painter for 30 years, Batteau Painter for 23 years. Randy Smith's influences are Van Gogh, Diebenkorn,diSuvero, and MC Escher. Painting on sidewalks, ocean beaches,and riverbanks, Smith's style is a form of neo- impressionism, fauve, mixed with the environmental elements ..wind sun rain and snow. Composition is everything to a painting", when asked "what kind of paint ,'oil is the only paint to hold up to the elements'". Painting on wood - oval, round and square - he paints images small enough to pack around on his easel, wwhether on the subway ,ferry or batteaux.
