THE DREAM OF THE UNICORN IN THE YEAR OF GENEVIEVE Text and images by K. N. CHAUDHURI ABOUT THE WORK In June 1995 a collection of my photographic images was exhibited at the Badia Fiesolana, Florence, under the title Le rêve de la licorne. The public reception of the Exhibition was enthusiastic and more than a thousand people came to San Domenico di Fiesole to see the work. This volume of photo-text has grown out of that project and retains its basic structure and form. The images presented here as The Dream of the Unicorn in the Year of Geneviève attempt to depict the reality as a dream and the dream as a reality. The sequence of images resembles in many ways a mytho-poetry in which moods associated with landscape and buildings utter the language of human emotions. The principal characters are off-stage but their presence pervades the empty space of the artist's imagination. In the present work, short texts act as signposts to the journey during which the onlooker is taken through a landscape of day-dreams stretching over four seasons. This voyage of self-discovery is also an exercise in integrating vision, language, and thought. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION Edition limited to 75 numbered and signed copies.
