WSW's main educational program, Summer Arts Institute, was established in
1984. Artists and instructors from across the country gather here at WSW
from July through November to exchange information, share the latest
techniques, and stimulate new ideas in a series of intensive, hands-on week
long and weekend workshops. The atmosphere at the WSW during the Summer
Arts Institute is dynamic, focused and thought provoking - a cherished time
for renewal.
We are offering some very exciting courses during the summer of 1997,
featuring tried-and-true favorites like Sculptural Paper with Ann Marie
Kennedy and Alternative Photo Processes with Tana Kellner, along with
several new and innovative techniques, such as Silicone Intaglio with
Heather Arak-Kanofsky and Nathan Kanofsky. You may note a particular
emphasis on the narrative this year, with courses such as Dorothy Field's
Paper Cloth/Paper Thread: Spinning Our Yarns, and Creative Writing for
Visual Artists with Indigo Som (1996 WSW Artists' Book Residency Grant
recipient for He LikesYou.
WSW presents a series of informal slide lectures featuring the visiting
artists who are presenting workshops here. Lectures are held on Tuesday
evenings and begin at 7 pm. The general public is welcome to attend these
events, but are advised to call ahead to confirm. (A speaker may be
canceled if their class is not fully enrolled.)
